CORRECTION

Channel 12 in Cincinnati and Debra Dixon will be featuring a show this Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005 about the disappearance and murder of Laney Gwinner. We suspect this will air in the afternoon hours.

Once again, thank you Debra Dixon for showing interest in these missing and murdered ladies. She's a great news caster.

the news program will not actually be aired
until next Thursday, February 10th.
However, tonight there is a report on a young
lady who was attacked in Cincinnati which I encourage
anyone to watch to be aware of the negatives this world can bring.

Thank you for letting us know of this correction. Often times it is hard to know when these important dates are going to air because we are not in the same area as you all. I do hope that somebody can tape this. I'd like to see it. We corrected her info. on both threads.

SONAR Could Help Solve Local Cold Murder Case

LAST UPDATE: 4/29/2005 10:11:40 AM

Video

A newly formed Cold Case Squad within the Butler County Sheriff's Office is confident it can solve the murder of a local woman eight years ago.

Laney Gwinner was killed in December 1997. No one knows why, and the one clue that could lead to her killer has yet to be uncovered.

Gwinner was last seen at a bar in Fairfield. Her body was found a month later in the Ohio River near Warsaw, Kentucky.

Missing in the investigation is her Honda Del Sol. Detectives think it was dumped in the Great Miami River south of Hamilton. Investigators hope SONAR equipment will help locate it and bring to the surface some sort of watery clue.

Detective Frank Smith tells Local 12 CrimeStoppers reporter Deborah Dixon he believes Gwinner's body was in the car when it went into the water. At some point it came out and floated downstream, he speculated.

Detectives are once again interviewing Gwinner's friends and acquaintances in hopes of developing new suspects.

If you have information on the case, call CrimeStoppers at (513) 352-3040 or toll free at 888-352-3040. You do not have to give your name and could get cash for your clues. Local 12 and CrimeStoppers have been partners for 24 years.

Butler County Bureau

HAMILTON — There are new faces on Detective Frank Smith’s “wall of misery.”

Photos of murder victims Alana Gwinner and Beverly Krause were mounted on the detective’s office wall Thursday. They will soon be joined by pictures of Clayton Adams and a as yet-unnamed murder victim from Monroe.

The reopening of the four cold cases — some of which date back more than 30 years — was announced Thursday as Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones and Prosecutor Robin Piper unveiled the Butler County Cold Case Unit.

The unit — manned by Smith — is working with other jurisdictions to reopen unsolved homicides in the county.

“It makes sense we work them together and families get justice,” Jones said. “Some people question why we’re working these old cases. It was your wife, child or husband, you’d want to know.”

Smith has been working cold case homicides for several years. He hangs the victims’ photographs on his wall as he works the cases and has solved several.

“It’s a very, very worthwhile idea to share resources and work together,” Piper said. “It lets the public and the criminals know that we don’t forget.”

The new cases are:

Alana “Laney” Gwinner, of what is now West Chester Township, disappeared Dec. 10, 1997 after leaving Gilmore Lanes in Fairfield. She was 23.

She left in a 1993 Honda Del Sol to meet her boyfriend — who lived in Fairfield — and disappeared.

Gwinner’s body was found in the Ohio River near Warsaw, Ky. on Jan. 11, 1998. Her car has never been recovered from the water— something Smith said he intends to do soon.

Autopsy reports were inconclusive, but the investigation pointed toward asphyxiation, Smith said. He believes Gwinner was killed by someone she knew.

Beverly Krause, of Louisville, Ky., was reported missing July 14, 1974. She was 23.

Her body was found four days later in a Ross Township sludge pit. Krause was misidentified in 1975 as a missing Tennessee woman because of her description and various personal items found in the sludge pit.

However, the missing Tennessee woman showed up about three months later, reviving the Butler County mystery, according to newspaper reports.

Krause’s body was exhumed from a Tennessee grave in 1988 and correctly identified through dental records. She died of blunt trauma, “probably a baseball bat or tire iron,” Smith said.

He said she was probably killed by someone she knew. The only motive he could think of was “hatred.” Krause is from Dale, Ind., but she moved to Louisville with her husband and was associated with the Iron Horsemen motorcycle gang. Krause’s family asked the sheriff’s office to reopen the case. Smith said there is a strong suspect.

John “Clayton” Adams, II, of, 1279 Dayton St., was found dead on Morris Road in Fairfield Township on Nov 23, 1974. He was 20.

He had been shot four times in the head at close range with a small caliber weapon. Adams was an accomplished rock musician, playing the bass guitar, according to earlier reports.

At the time, investigators believed Adams was killed elsewhere and said the murder might have been drug related. Smith declined comment on motive. He said the suspect is male and still lives in Butler County. The case was reopened at the request of the family, said Adams’ brother.

The Monroe Police Department Thursday asked the Cold Case Unit to take over one of its cases, Smith said. He is not yet releasing details.

The four new cases join eight others that the Cold Case Unit is already investigating. Three other old murders Smith investigated have already been solved, Smith said. Those victims’ pictures are on another wall with their killers’ mug shots below them.

A fourth is scheduled for trial May 10. James Elmo Craft was indicted in June 2001 in connection with the 1974 beating death of Cynthia Beuerlein, a 15-year-old Springdale girl whose body was found in what is now West Chester Township.

xx Harassment of Gwinner Family and Supporters
« Reply #27 on: May 23rd, 2005, 08:33am »

I am very saddened to post this information today but its at the request of Unsolved Murder Victim Laney Gwinner's friends and relatives. It seems that convicted murderer Vincent Doan's website had taken some photos of Laney off her website without notification and they've began an assault against the Gwinner family and friends for asking to have Laney taken down off their website. They are acusing the young woman posting as if she is me or Debra Culberson. I find this disgusting and typical.
I am asking that each person who reads the harassment and comments towards these innocent people who have paid to have their website copyritten report this website each day until it's taken down.
This is not fair to the victims family. They are not responsible for the imprisionment of Vincent Doan. This is the only way to harass people. And that is very sad.

I am a cousin of Laney's and am wondering what you are talking about in your post. I have looked over the Vincent Doan website and do not see anything relating to this.

Angie,

This is what I am talking about.

This matter will be handled as soon as my attorney can get this situation with my friend Dennis handled out in CA. These people have no right to include this young woman on that site. They have been asked to take it down and they refuse to comply. Frankly I'm sick of that whole website. There are so many errors on there it's not even funny. All of the information is incorrect and false. We have been successful in having incorrect facts removed and now we are on to another. I am sorry that this family is now in the middle of this.
