xx Yolanda Bindics - Has Been Found Deceased
« Thread started on: Sep 10th, 2004, 1:30pm »

Yolanda was last seen on Tuesday, August 10th, 2004 at 8:30 p.m, sitting in her car, talking on her cellphone in the parking lot of the Family Dollar Store where she worked, after locking the shop up for the night. She told her brother, who was watching her four daughters, that she was stopping on the way home to buy milk. The brother became concerned when he hadn't heard from her.

Yolanda's car was found at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 11th, 2004 at an Arby's returaunt, also located on Fluvana Avenue. Jamestown Police are currently working with FBI and other law enforcement agencies in their search for Yolanda Bindics.

One Month Anniversary of Disappearance

Its been exactly one month since a Jamestown mother of four disappeared.

Yoland Bindics disappeared after leaving her job August 10th. Her locked car was found shortly afterward several miles away. Since then, police have searched by helicopter, foot and dive teams and found nothing. Earlier this week, Yolanda's purse washed out of a sewer during heavy rains. Her wallet and a photo were also found. "Those items are in the possession of evidence personel who are deciding which labs should examine them for fingerprint or DNA evidence," says Jamestown police Captain Lee Davies. "We just don't have evidence to say something has or has not happened to her."

"We believe she was abducted," says former boyfriend, Dean Reithel. "Anybody will tell ya she would never leave her kids and if she was having problems, she would have took her kids with her." Reithel has a 2 year old daughter with Bindics. "She does ask on a daily basis where her mom is," says Reithel, "she'll say, 'my mom's on posters'."

Police say until they have evidence of violence or abduction, they will continue to investigate this as a missing persons' case.

JAMESTOWN - Yolanda A. Bindics, a mother of four young girls, will turn 26 on Wednesday - if she's still alive.
One of her 10 brothers and sisters, Margaret Ostrom, knows how she will mark the occasion.

"This year, on her birthday, I'm going to have a star named after Yolanda," she said. "I want to do something meaningful, something that will be out there forever. If she comes home, I'll give her the certificate. If not, I'll put it in the scrapbook I made for her when we were little."

xx Family, friends, hold vigil for missing mother
« Reply #7 on: Sep 30th, 2004, 1:21pm »

By the end of a birthday vigil for Yolanda Bindics, there were few dry eyes among the 100-plus friends and relatives who came to pray for her safe return home.

They gathered for a special candle-light vigil at Allen Park in Jamestown on the night of her 26th birthday, if she’s still alive.

“I never thought we’d have to gather like this,” said Yolanda’s sister-in-law April Bindics. “I wish we could be out with her having fun.”

Bindics vanished August 10. She was last seen leaving work at the Family Dollar in Jamestown. Her abandoned car was found the next day. And later, authorities recovered her car keys and pocketbook after they washed up out of a storm drain. Investigators still have no idea why or how she disappeared.

Her birthday service began with a prayer from the priest of her local parish. Many at the vigil signed an enormous birthday card. Relatives said they’d give Yolanda the card when she returned home. Later in the night, several of her relatives spoke to the large crowd, including Yolanda’s mother and older sister.

Three of Yolanda’s four children came, and her second youngest child, Allison, blew out a special birthday candle meant for her mother. She also released a balloon into the sky. As for Yolanda, a large photograph mounted on an easel stood in her place.

The large crowd also sang happy birthday to Yolanda. Her priest ended the song with the words, “please come home.”

Earlier in the day, Bindics’s mother, Patricia, told 2 On Your Side that while she prays for her daughter’s safe return, she has come to grips with the possibility Yolanda may never come home.

“We just want to know what happened,” she said.

Meantime, authorities said they continue to actively investigate her disappearance, but that they will stop searching unless they come across any new leads or evidence.

xx FBI Offers Cash Reward in Bindics Case
« Reply #8 on: Oct 1st, 2004, 9:27pm »

(Jamestown, NY, October 1, 2004) - - The FBI is offering a cash reward as the search expands for a missing mother of four from Jamestown. News 4's Lorey Schultz has the latest developments in the Yolanda Bindics mystery.

Seven weeks after the disappearance of Yolanda Bindics, Jamestown police are still trying to determine what happened.

Now, officials are hoping that an FBI reward of up to 20,000 dollars will help them solve this case.

Jamestown Police Chief William MacLaughlin said, "Hopefully, this offering of a reward will bring additional information to us that will lead to the location of Yolanda."

Peter Ahearn, Special Agent in Charge of the Buffalo FBI field office, said, "You recognize, at a point in an investigation, and in agreement among the investigators, that this might be something that is useful."

The young mother of four disappeared August 10th in Jamestown.

Since then, detectives have conducted an exhaustive search.

At this time, leads are starting to dry up.

Friday, Bindics' sister joined officials at FBI headquarters.

Anne Chmielewski, Yolanda's sister, said, "I personally think somebody knows something and perhaps, like I said, money will help them to speak up."

From the very beginning, police listed Yolanda's disappearance as suspicious, and, Friday, her sister says that she and her family have suspicions about who might have done it.

For now, at least in public, family members are keeping quiet about who they think is responsible.

When asked, "Do you think your sister is alive?", Anne Chmielewski reponded, "I personally, I absolutely do. I think someone has her, and, with this reward, someone who knows where she may be hopefully will speak up."

In addition to the reward, Yolanda's case is now featured on the FBI's missing persons page; another tool to generate new leads in a mysterious case.

I have heard a little about this case and find it to be very sad.
Every person is someone's child and this woman is also a mother. These children need her.

May Yolanda be reunited with her children and soon.

Praying for Yolanda,

xx Watson Accused of Harassing and Stalking Women
« Reply #11 on: Oct 5th, 2004, 3:14pm »

(Jamestown, NY, October 5, 2004) - - He's a person of interest in the disappearance of a missing mother of four. And now, a Jamestown police officer is facing several charges, including stalking. News 4's Barbara Pinson has the latest.

Jamestown Police Officer Michael Watson is accused of harassing and stalking a number of women. Crystal Butera says she's one of them.

Former Jamestown Police Dept. employee Crystal Butera: "He would follow me, he would call me on my cell phone - asked me where I was and he would be right outside the residence that I was at."

Butera worked with Watson at the police department, but says she never reported any problems because she thought things would only get worse.

She was later fired for an undisclosed reason. And now Officer Watson has been suspended from the department without pay after an internal investigation.

Jamestown Police Chief William MacLaughlin: "The officers of the Jamestown Police Department are entrusted with the duty to perform to the highest standards of professionalism, professional conduct and tenants of their oath of office at all times. Michael Watson violated those standards through his conduct."

Monday, Watson was arrested and arraigned on one count of official misconduct, two counts of stalking, two counts of harassment and four counts of aggravated harassment.

He also became a person of interest in the disappearance of Yolanda Bindics after it came to light that he had a relationship with her he tried to hide.

But officials say one topic has nothing to do with the other.

"The investigation in the relationship between Watson and Bindics is continuing by the FBI and is unrelated to these criminal and civil service charges that resulted from our independent and internal investigation."

But Yolanda's family thinks these stalking and harassment charges strengthen their suspicions.

Yolanda's mother Patricia Bindics: "We wonder if he has abducted her in some way we don't know how far it's gone. We don't know if it's really harmful or where he has taken her."

Yolanda Bindics has been missing for seven weeks.

As for Officer Watson and the unrelated misdemeanor charges, he's free on 10,000 dollars bail pending a hearing.

xx Police No Closer 10-6-04

Jamestown Police say they're no closer to solving the disappearance of Yolanda Bindics, even after what initially seemed like a promising arrest to her family.

Monday, police arrested one of their own, 34-year-old Officer Michael Watson, who authorities say had a relationship with Bindics. He's charged with stalking and harassing several women while on duty.

The arrest was unrelated to the Bindics disappearance, yet it may have never happened had she not vanished eight weeks ago.

"We had to initiate our own internal investigation to evaluate his conduct," said Captain Lee Davies of the Jamestown Police Department.

They did so, said Davies, because Watson was still on active duty in the early and most crucial days after Bindics disappeared. Authorities say four days had passed before they learned of Watson's relationship with Bindics. Watson was then put on paid leave.

We asked Davies if he knows "who did it" but does not have the evidence to prove it.

"I don't think at this point (we know) this is the person and we need to prove this is the person," Davies said.

We also asked him if it was more than likely Bindics was taken by someone who knew her.

"That's very likely, yes," Davies said. "But certainly, we haven't ruled out any possibility."

For now, new missing posters show a $20,000 reward for information about Bindics's whereabouts. Authorities believe someone other than her abductor knows something important, but will not come forward.

"The information must be there," Davies said. "Someone needs to come forward and share that with us to help."

xx D.A. Wants Case Against Jamestown Officer Moved
« Reply #13 on: Oct 8th, 2004, 10:01pm »

(October 8, 2004) - - The Chautauqua County D.A. wants to move the harassment case against a suspended Jamestown police officer to Cattaraugus County to avoid conflicts of interest.

Michael Watson is accused of stalking several local women.

He's also a "person of interest" in the disappearance of Yolanda Bindics, but police say the stalkings are not tied to that case.
