xx Pet Chat
« Thread started on: Feb 25th, 2005, 07:09am »

I thought I would add this topic because we have several visitors on this board who work with dogs, and one lady on here who is a vet. I have noticed something about the people who work with missing people. MOST of them love animals too. So, if you want to chat about your pet, let's hear your story today.

Here is a photo of my baby at my granny's house taking a nap. This dog has it's only blankets made especially for her.

Let's see and hear your stories.

smiley smiley smiley What a great idea--right up my alley...since I also work with animals, and have 4 of the most gorgeous, huge, healthy indoor,(except at my moms house where she has a huge privacy fence) spoiled brats in the world. They are all males and since I have no children and am not married, they are the light of my life. I have a 19 lb named Trouble, another 19 lb Long hair named Tigger A garfield looking 20 lb baby named Little Guy and then I have a 18 lb Tiger striped named Mr. Bill(or Little Baby) I am proud to say that I adopted most all my babies from the SPCA. Oh My, I could go on and on, but I better stop before I bore someone, lol.
I will post some pics too, but I will have to scan some new ones of Tigger now that he is bigger and older, and maybe Little Baby too.

I love your Dog Jill........you can tell he is a spoiled one too, that you really take care of himsmiley Nothing makes me happier than to see someone that takes very good care of their animals Remember---animals are just little people in fur coats.........

Jill, your dog is sooo adorable. She is definitely a little princess.
Deborah, I am a fellow cat lover. I have two cats Baby Buddah, she is 7 years old and weighs 9 lbs. THen, I have my little Devil Kitty rolleyes. His name is Spike Adonis, 3 years old and weighs 14 pounds. He actually looks exactly like Tigger only with a little more white to him. I will definitely post some pictures as soon as I get a chance.
Jill, that was a good chat idea. I have a feeling we could talk about that topic a lot. wink wink grin

Deborah is a vet when she's not online with all of us cheesy
I like those big cats. I dont have any cats because we cant have many around here. The dog was not raised around them and she'd eat one of them.

I had a Dalmation for 15 years before Tubby (The Jack Russell Terrier). I'll see if I can find a picture of Spotty for you all. She was a sweet old dog. She died in 1998.

Last summer the dog stuck it's nose in some weeds and there was a copperhead snake there. The snake bit Tubby on the nose. We had to the vet's office within 7 minutes. Her face swelled up really big. You can see the fang marks on her nose. We took this picture of her because she was looking very sad and wanting people to feel sorry for her. Needless to say, she got a few McDonalds cheese burgers during this time tongue

Poor Tubby!! cry cry I bet that that one hurt quite a bit.

My Buddah and SPike do not get along rolleyes rolleyes!! They fight all the time and chase each other around the house. We just moved to a new house and when they chase each other around the house we will hear a big THUD and look, only to find one of the cats being dazed and confused. LOL! cheesy

I am also going to post pictures of my kittens who live with my old roommate. We got Simba and Nala (both 8 months and brother and sister) at our local Humane SOciety. Then we also had Raja(4 years). What can I say we had a house full of DIsney Characters. grin

I also have to share with you pet lovers this bit of information. I have fed my animals Iams for over 20 years and recently learned of their animal cruelty and testing. I will never buy Iams or any pet food that conducts animal testing again. I never dreamed that a company that seemed to love animals would conduct cruel testing. Sorry to preach but this is important to me.

shocked Well now ziggygirl you have started such a controversial subject that we could debate for years to comesmiley Believe me, this is also important to me, not only in my career but in my own animals. I went to your link and read your report and had to admit I was thouroughly disgusted,as I am with any EXPERIMENTAL usages of animals. I also noticed or maybe assumbed that you are a very active supporter and believer in PETA. THIS IS NOT BAD...I am also a member of the ASPCA and the MSPCA, CAPS and several other organizations that rescue and humanly treat our pets. But we take a different turn for (me personally) I am not a member of PETA, working in the Veterinarian position I have SEEN WITH MY OWN EYES some of the phamplets and materials that PETA sends out,and frankly some are just HORRIBLE and some are nothing you would want your child to maybe get out of the mailbox.I am sure that around this countey, there are several labs that still experiment on animals and my personal opinion on that is it is a travesty of justice, I would close them all to if I could, but people that eat crabs I do not believe you will ever convince that this is wrong. PETA is a huge organization and they are ON anything and everything worldwide when it comes to ANY animal. It would be a wonderful world if we could really live in a world where NO animal had to be in pain or was suffering, but realistically, I wanted to address the Iam's food also, YES if that report which by all acounts on that story would lead someone to believe was 100% true, I would be outraged too. But, Iams dog and cat food are 100% backed up by most Vets, and I am sure there are alot of them that probably never seen that article, as I have never seen it before. I know FOR YOUR ANIMALS HEALTH Iams is an excellent food, as is Hills Science Diet(which believe it or not has not even been proven absolutely to do what it claims it is supposed to and advertizes for animals (just a little inside information there, believe it or not told to me by an expert Cat Veterinarian only)She wouldnt recommend Science Diet to anyone, BUT she will recommend Iamshuh I feed my Cats all Science Diet because they have different formulas like if one has a sensitive stomach, maybe the other one has hairballs They love it!!, but I did feed them Iams when they were babies maybe for a year until someone in the business recommended Hills to me. Even today, you will find Vets that would not use Science Diet, but its all a personal choice. I believe in PETA and truely believe their heart is in the right place, if I am not mistaking isnt their saying

"People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), with more than 800,000 members, is the largest animal rights organization in the world. Founded in 1980, PETA is dedicated to establishing and protecting the rights of all animals. PETA operates under the simple principle that animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, or use for entertainment.

PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: on factory farms, in laboratories, in the fur trade, and in the entertainment industry. We also work on a variety of other issues, including the cruel killing of beavers, birds and other "pests," and the abuse of backyard dogs"

I just wish they wouldnt be so graphic and send out such almost "roadkill" pictures with its information. People will never stop crabbing, fishing,Most people will continue to feed their animals the food either their Vet recommended or whatever they feel is good for the pet, people will never stop buying furs(which I totally agree with you on),There are things I try and do, like use no makeup or things such as that that are animal tested, and just a personal opinion here I do not believe that EVERYONE will ever stop eating meat. The labs, slaughterhouses, and entertainment PETA seems to be doing good investigative work. I just had to respond because we get so many things from PETA, and I have never seen this report before. It is something I would tell other Vets and see what they have to say about this one. Please dont take any of my rambling personally, everyone has their own opinions and that is whats great about this, we can debate them together. Good luck--

I know PETA can be extreme and I don't approve of all the things they pick on. I agree with you 100% on that one.

Our animals are all very healthy and thriving with the Iams.

I actually saw this article first through my 18 year old son who is boycotting P&G because of the animal testing.

http://www.uncaged.co.uk/iams.htm

He is doing his Senior exit project on protests within the last 20 years. At any rate when I read that article I felt like a fool who had been paying a company for over 20 years to be cruel to animals. It really upset me that I was either that naive or they were just plain evil. I now try to buy soaps, shampoos cleaning products etc etc etc that have that little circle with the bunny in it that denotes no animal testing. I still wear leather. I do try to feed my family free range chicken no beef or pork, and eggs from chickens that aren't cruelly raised in those little cages. I've been this way for 25 years. I know all of that is hypocritical of me. I do what I can though.

I know it's a can of worms Deborah I just can't help it! smiley

You know the movie 12 Monkees with Brad Pitt is about animal rights activists destroying the world. huh That's just plain crazy stuff!

smiley) Well they will also say chocolate CAN be fatal to dogs and cats,I certainly wouldnt overdo it, but they also say that if you give tuna fish even in water that your male cat can get a blockage and not be able to urinate, like crystals build up in the urinary tract., but I have always given given my cats a treat of Tuna maybe once a month, just so they can have something different that they love. And Thank God nothing so far has ever happened to mine yet. I have seen a dog come in one time with an overdose of caffeine from getting into chocolate AND aspirins that were laying around, but even though he got pretty sick, he turned out ok.

And ziggygirl, if Iams is running an operation like that I am surprised that they havent been put out of business, I am also gonna read the link you posted for your son, because I still cant believe in all this time I have never heard of this with Iams. It was something that got my attention, even if PETA does go to extremes sometimes, so I will let some of my co-workers in places higher than mine read it to and see what they think.
