Stars, this was ALL OVER the news last night here where I'm from. I think this child realized that he was in a bad situation and when that car broke down that they were in yesterday, he probably saw that as an opportunity to try to get away once they got someplace where other people cound help.

It always makes me feel good to know that he is alright. I dont like to see any child or adult for that matter go through something like this.

xx Fla. Boy Back With Family After Abduction
« Reply #7 on: Jan 23rd, 2005, 10:42am »

OCALA, Fla. (AP) - An 11-year-old boy who had been taken from his school by a convicted child molester was reunited with his family Saturday while dozens of police searched for the kidnapping suspect in Georgia.

The boy was hugged by his mother as he emerged from a police car outside the Marion County sheriff's office.

His father, Ivert Kirkirt, said the boy was surprised by all the attention and looked good after the ordeal. "He said, 'Dad, stop crying,'" Kirkirt said.

Meanwhile, police continued searching for Frederick Fretz, 42, who was believed to be hiding in woods near where the boy was found in northwest Georgia on Friday, said Maj. Mike Powell of the police department in Emerson, Ga. Powell said there was no indication the boy had been molested.

Fretz, who had been living with the boy and his father, picked up the boy at a Dunnellon, Fla., elementary school on Tuesday, police said. Their car stalled on a highway exit ramp north of Atlanta, and police received a call when Fretz and the boy went to a store in Emerson on Friday. The boy was found later that day.

The father said Fretz never told him he had been convicted of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old boy in Pennsylvania in 1991.

xx Sex offender nabbed for Florida kidnapping
« Reply #8 on: Jan 24th, 2005, 07:12am »

Cartersville, GA, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- A convicted sex offender was being held in Georgia Monday in connection with the abduction last week of an 11-year-old boy from Florida, CNN reported.

Frederick Fretz, 42, was arrested by police in Cartersville, about 40 miles northwest of Atlanta Sunday afternoon, said police spokeswoman Edwina Wood.

Fretz is accused of kidnapping Adam Kirkirt after picking him up from elementary school Tuesday in Dunnellon, Fla.

The youth was found uninjured Friday by a sheriff's deputy in Bartow County, Ga.

Sunday, Cartersville police were called to a shopping center to investigate a report of a man acting suspiciously, Wood said. Fretz reportedly tried to run, but was apprehended.

Fretz was convicted of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old Pennsylvania boy in 1991 but was not registered as a sex offender in Florida, where he had been living with the boy and his father, Ivert Kirkirt.

A spokesman for the Marion County Sheriff's Office in Ocala, Fla, said Fretz now faces a federal kidnapping charge, plus two state counts -- a felony charge of failing to register as a sex offender and a misdemeanor charge of violating probation.

xx Alleged abductor now in Florida custody
« Reply #9 on: Jan 25th, 2005, 05:38am »

The 42-year-old man who was arrested in Cartersville Sunday for allegedly abducting an 11-year-old boy has been returned to Florida to face charges stemming from the alleged kidnapping.

Convicted sex offender Frederick Edward Fretz of Ocala, Fla., waived his right to an identity hearing Monday when he appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Walter Johnson in Rome.

He will have his bond and preliminary hearings in Marion County, Fla., later.

“It basically means that he’s acknowledging that he is in fact Frederick Fretz,” said Calhoun-based attorney Scott Forster, who was appointed as Fretz’s counsel for the hearing. “Otherwise we might have had to wait a week for Florida officers to come up here and identify him as their man.”

Fretz is suspected of kidnapping Adam Kirkirt, 11, at Dunnellon Elementary in Emerson, Fla., last Tuesday.

The next day, authorities issued an Amber Alert to notify the public and other law enforcement agencies about the incident, after learning of Fretz’s previous convictions on sex offense charges.

Police later found Fretz’s abandoned car on Interstate 75 in Bartow County on Friday.

The car triggered a manhunt that found the boy in a wooded area along Red Top Mountain Road later that evening.

He has since been reunited with his family, and police initially reported he appeared uninjured.

Fretz was caught after a brief foot chase when a Cartersville policeman Sunday afternoon saw him on Main Street and Interstate 75, using a sign to hitchhike, police said.

Fretz, who had been living with Adam and his father, picked up the boy at Dunnellon Elementary School last Tuesday, police said. The boy’s father said Fretz never told him he had been convicted of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old boy in Pennsylvania in 1991.

xx Kidnapping Suspect May Have Planned Abduction
« Reply #10 on: Jan 26th, 2005, 06:52am »

OCALA, Fla. -- Channel 9 has learned new details about what a kidnapping suspect told Adam Kirkirt when he picked him up from school on January 18. Court documents show Frederick Fretz may have planned for at least a week to take the 11-year-old boy. Both were finally found in north Georgia last weekend.

Frederick Fretz, left, is escorted to a patrol car by Cpl. P.A. Little, of the Cartersville Police Department, in Cartersville, Ga., Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005.

As usual, the FBI is being very tight lipped about its investigation, but a criminal complaint sheds new light on how Fretz got Adam to go with him and some of what Adam encountered while they were gone.

The FBI won't say whether Fretz is cooperating or not, but investigators already have evidence Fretz lied to Adam and his father.

The phone message Fretz left Adam's father Fred said he'd borrowed a cell phone and was lost with Adam in the middle of nowhere. Investigators actually traced the call back to a pay phone at a convenience store on Highway 40 in Ocala. Fretz then drove north to Georgia, where the car broke down and they were found.

"A lot of the notes are still being compared and investigators are still trying to verify a lot of the info around the whole case," explains Captain Dennis Strow, Marion County Sheriff's Office.

Since Ddam is safely back with his family, there is no need to rush his interview. But he did tell the FBI that Fretz lured him away, saying his father had been arrested and wanted Fretz to take him to Kentucky to keep him from his mother. The document also says Fretz suggested the Kentucky trip at least a week before they left. He told Adam it was a secret, and Adam kept it.

So far, Fretz, a convicted child molester, is not accused of those kinds of crimes in this case. But advocates are working closely with Adam and his family to recover from the whole ordeal.

Psychologists recommended he not return to school this week, and, even though the document says Fretz refused several of Adam's requests to let him call his mother. Adam's father says he doesn't think Adam knew what was really happening until it was all over.

One of Adam's relatives told Channel 9 that he's already acting just like he did before he was kidnapped.

Meanwhile, Fretz is in a federal prison in Atlanta and will be extradited back to Central Florida sometime at the end of this week.

xx Missing teeth helped man spot Florida hitchhiker a
« Reply #11 on: Jan 27th, 2005, 05:10am »

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. - The man who helped put an accused Florida kidnapper back behind bars, says he knew something was wrong when he saw a hitchhiker trying to hide his face.

Play video from Tampa Bay's 10

Images of Frederick Fretz released by police.
Dean Pye says he remembered seeing Frederick Fretz's picture on television. Fretz was being hunted for in the abduction of 11-year-old Adam Kirkirt of the Ocala, Fla., area.

Fretz's car was also recovered Friday a few miles from Pye's Georgia home. Pye says when he saw a suspicious looking hitchhiker on the side of the road, he started to wonder.

"I drove right by him and for a couple of seconds I was thinking I feel sorry for that guy. It's freezing out here and then it just kind of went off like a light bulb," Pye said.

Fretz's missing teeth stood out, Pye said. He called 911 and Fretz was arrested a short time later.

"The only thing thing that concerned me was him harming another child somewhere else and that makes me happy that he doesn't have the opportunity to do that anymore," Pye said.

xx Local Authorities Unsure When Fretz Will Return
« Reply #13 on: Feb 2nd, 2005, 07:18am »

It has been nearly a week and a half since suspected kidnapper Frederick Fretz was picked up by the authorities alongside a highway in rural Georgia, but before he can face the charges against him in court, he must be brought back to Florida, and local law enforcement says they don’t know when that will happen.

Both the federal and state governments have pressed charges against Fretz for his role in abducting 11-year-old Adam Kirkirt, but for now, the suspect remains in custody at a federal penitentiary in Atlanta.

A spokesperson for the Marion Co. Sheriff’s Office says the federal agents haven’t told them much about when Fretz will return, only that it will occur sometime in the next two weeks.

With Fretz’s case being so high profile, authorities say that the feds won’t let them know that Fretz is on his way to the Marion Co. Jail until he arrives at the Jail’s backdoor.

No word has been given as to how the U.S. Marshall’s Service plans on transporting Fretz.

xx Suspect in kidnapping returned to jail in Ocala
« Reply #14 on: Feb 10th, 2005, 07:40am »

Suspect in kidnapping returned to jail in Ocala

OCALA -- Frederick Fretz Jr., a convicted child molester and a suspect in the kidnapping of a Dunnellon fifth-grader, was returned to Marion County on Tuesday, three weeks to the day after the abduction.

U.S. deputy marshals from Orlando delivered Fretz to the Marion County Jail in Ocala, where he was placed in a high-security, one-man cell, according to Capt. Dennis Strow of the Marion County Sheriff's Office.
Fretz did not comment as he was led into the jail.

He will be issued a red jail uniform while he is being held in Ocala, Strow said. Inmate uniforms are color-coded to indicate status, and red uniforms are for inmates considered to be the highest risk and highest security threat, Strow said.

Authorities said Fretz picked up Adam Kirkirt, 11, from Dunnellon Elementary School on Jan. 18 and was taking him to Kentucky. The boy was found Jan. 21 northeast of Atlanta and returned to his mother, Dorraine Kirkirt of Ocala.

Fretz was arrested in the same area two days later. Since then, Fretz, 42, had been held by federal authorities in Atlanta on kidnapping charges. He also could face state charges in the case.

According to a criminal complaint filed in federal court last month, Adam told authorities that a week before the abduction, Fretz talked to him about going to Kentucky.

Adam told Fretz he did not want to go, the report indicated, and Fretz told Adam to keep the discussion "a secret."

Ivert and Dorraine Kirkirt are separated. Adam had been staying at his father's house, where Fretz lived, because his mother was evicted from her home in December.

Authorities issued an Amber Alert on Jan. 19, distributing information and photographs of Adam, Fretz and the car, a 1993 Chevrolet Lumina.

The car broke down off Interstate 75 near Cartersville, Ga., Jan. 20, leading to the discovery of the boy the next day and the arrest of Fretz two days later.
