GSO seeks help in search for missing teen

The sheriff’s office Tuesday listed a Dickinson High School student, last seen Friday, as missing and possibly endangered.
Shad Taylor Gast, 17, was last seen near the Green Caye Golf Course, said Sgt. Randle Burrows, the sheriff’s office detective investigating Gast’s disappearance.
Gast’s mother reported him missing Sunday morning. The delay apparently occurred because she thought he was with his father, and he thought Gast was with her. Gast’s parents are divorced.
“There was some confusion about where he was, but when the mother realized he wasn’t where she thought he was, she called us,” Burrows said.
A friend of Gast’s found his vehicle at the friend’s home, which also is in Dickinson. Burrows said the discovery of the vehicle raised questions about what happened to Gast, as did the fact that he had never vanished in a similar fashion before.
“Those circumstances have led us to believe there could be something suspicious here,” Burrows said.
Burrows asked anyone with information as to Gast’s whereabouts to call the sheriff’s office, at (409) 766-2322. Callers can also leave information with the sheriff’s office’s Tips Line, (866) 248-8477.

Evidence in missing teen case troubles investigators, parents
By Chau Nguyen / 11 News
A search has been taking place in Galveston County for missing 17-year-old Taylor Gast who was last seen a week ago near a golf course in the 2400 block of Caroline in Dickinson.
His worried parents said their son disappeared without cash or credit cards.
In the search for clues, people were looking for the missing teen by talking to anyone they could.
"If you happen to see him we sure appreciate you calling, ok," said Leslie Pucek.
For Leslie Pucek, the search is personal because Taylor Gast is her son. "I'm not going to give up. I won't give up," she said.
Pucek said she last spoke to Taylor last Friday night when he was supposed to be staying at his dad's house. "I don't know what's going on, but I just want him to come home," she said.
Taylor Gast's SUV was found abandoned alongside a Dickinson golf course. His parents said he would have never left this truck that way.
The Galveston County Sheriff's Department stopped short of saying foul play was involved in the teen's disappearance, but told 11 News the circumstances are suspicious.
"And it's not like him to not answer his cell phone and it's not like him to not call his mother," said Mark Pucek, missing teen's stepfather. "He's never runaway. He's never been in significant trouble. Something's happened."
Those troubling sentiments were enough for volunteers with Texas EquuSearch to join in on search efforts.
"You can't leave any stones unturned. You have to check every spot," said John Mitchiner, Texas EquuSearch.
Anyone who knows where Taylor Gast might be is asked to call the Galveston County Sheriff's Department at 866-248-TIPS.
Body of missing Dickinson teen found in field

The body of a Dickinson High School student missing for more than a week was found today in a field near the area where he was last seen, Galveston County sheriff's officials said.
Shad Taylor Gast, 17, was found near the Green Caye Village community outside Dickinson, in a field at the end of Tulum Calle Street near some mobile homes and townhouses. He had been dead for at least five days, and investigators found no signs of trauma on the body, said Galveston County Sheriff's Sgt. Mike Barry.
An autopsy will be done Monday to determine how Gast died.
Gast was still wearing his jewelry and his wallet was found in his pocket, indicating that he had not been robbed, Barry said. The body was fully clothed, but missing one tennis shoe, which was found a short distance away, caught between some heavy pipes. Nearby, investigators found Gast's eyeglasses and cell phone.
Gast was last seen the night of April 29, when he and a friend were supposed to go to the Galveston County Fair and Rodeo, sheriff's officials said. But some time during that night, the two were "running from something," Barry said.
Sheriff's investigators have received information that Gast and his friend had been involved in some sort of theft or burglary, and that is why they were running, Barry said Saturday.
The pair became separated during that time and began communicating by cell phone. The friend last spoke with Gast at 11:30 p.m. that night.
Gast's car was later found parked in a private drive near the Green Caye Golf Course, but there were no signs of a struggle in or around the vehicle, investigators said.
His body was found around noon Saturday, about a mile from the spot where his car had been parked, Barry said. A family member and some volunteer searches found his remains about 200 yards from the nearest roadway. They called Gast's stepfather, who identified the body from the jewelry the missing teen was still wearing.
The friend with Gast on the night of his disappearance has cooperated with the investigation, Barry said.

Autopsy doesn't reveal sign of what killed Dickinson teen
According to a preliminary autopsy report, there are no obvious signs of what killed 17-year-old Taylor Gast, a Dickinson teenager found in a field over the weekend.
The teen had been missing for eight days before his body was found Saturday in a field not far from where he was last seen.
Investigators said the crime scene showed no evidence of foul play.
